3. Religious Literature: Read Wisdom of the Buddha: Read chapters 1, 7, 11, 14, 15 (five total). Write up the basic point of each of the five chapters and include this in the Religious Literature section of your website.
Chapter 1 The Twin Verses
Basically runs down a list of how you should think and act, how everything starts with our thoughts. We act on our thoughts. This is where our suffering comes from. The verses within this chapter seem to alternate describing a negative side and then a positive one. The main message is one of having your thoughts and actions in the right place, a positive one. As long as this occurs then happiness and success will follow. If your mind and actions come from an impure place than suffering will follow as a result.
Chapter 7 The Holy One
It seems the goal of this chapter is to explain ways towards nirvana. It defines what it takes to be on the right path and to be considered “holy”. The path is described as one who is able to detach themselves from material things. Having control of your emotions in both good and bad situations will result in having a peaceful life.
Chapter 11 Old Age
This chapter addresses our youth and our old age. Usually it is the mindset of us when we are young that we can conquer the world that nothing bad could ever happen to us. Also because we are so young we tend to think that we have all the time in the world and the spiritual side of life can wait till later. This time within our youth then becomes lost because its not used to acquire any wisdom. This chapter warns us not to wait until old age to gain this wisdom.
Chapter 14 The Enlightened One
The enlightened ones are described in this chapter. They have remained on the right path and their actions to do so are described here as well. They purify their minds by meditating often and because of these actions are noble. They are patient and show restraint when the situation calls for it because they are on a quest for the four noble truths then they will be lead to the Noble Eightfold Path. Chapter 15 Happiness
This chapter teaches the ones on the right path not to fear the negative things in life and they should be happy even though they live amongst those who are suffering. However they need to be wary of those they are around. We should not allow foolish people to influence us that will result us in going down the wrong path. Those that are wise and educated are our examples of ones to follow. This will lead to happiness.
